How Frequent is Too Frequent?

TOO FREQUENT MICRO-DERMABRASION TREATMENTS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR OPTIMAL RESULTS

What do you suppose would happen if you consistently cut your fingernails faster than they could grow?

Well, just like fingernails, genetics, age, and area of the body it covers predetermine skin growth. Scientific studies have determined the time for a keratinocyte to transverse the entire epidermis is between 28 and 45 days(1). Even so, many professionals believe weekly micro-dermabrasion is fully within the skin's regenerative ability and promotes skin health. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth.

Micro-dermabrading the skin at weekly intervals only serves to make skin thinner because skin cells are being removed faster than Mother Nature can possibly regenerate them. Furthermore, skin hardens to protect underlying tissues. On areas of the body where skin is naturally extremely thin, the effects of too frequent micro-dermabrasion are even more pronounced.

The staff at Estheticians Pharmacology Research Institute in Irvine, CA recommends sessions be performed at intervals of 10 days to 3 weeks depending on skin type. This schedule allows skin the time to properly regenerate. Supported by a nourishing, youthfullizing "interim" home care support program consisting of natural, botanical skin care. Because the skin is healthier the positive results of microdermabrasion are achieved in a shorter period of time.

BEFORE you invest in a machine or perform a treatment on a client, learn the true facts on micro-dermabrasion. Estheticians Pharmacology Research Institute is one of the few providers of continuing education to licensed esthetic professionals offering hands-on, certified training in the use of the micro-dermabrasion technique. Based on scientifically referenced principles of skin physiology, the classes taught at EPRI are designed to fully prepare professionals for a rewarding and safe career in micro-dermabrasion.
